HAMILTON - Two people were rescued from their burning home by alert neighbors as a fire swept through a Pasadena Drive house Friday morning, officials said.

The two residents were being tended to by Hamilton Police after they were pulled by quick-acting neighbors from the house on the first block of Pasadena Drive around 9:45 a.m.

The pair were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton. Their conditions were not immediately known, Hamilton Fire Chief Christopher Tozzi said.

Heavy flames and smoke poured out of the front of the single-story brick ranch-style house when firefighters arrived. Firefighters cut through the roof and were able to extinguish the blaze, which was under control in about a hour, Tozzi said.

No firefighters were injured. There was no immediate word on where the fire started. The blaze is under investigation, Tozzi said.
