Two people came home on the 100 block of Rusling Street just before 4 a.m. and heard strange noises in an upper room, Lt. Stephen Varn said.

The pair, armed with a shovel, walked upstairs to find a room on fire and an unknown man running out a window, Lt. Stephen Varn said.

The two warned others in the second apartment about the fire, Varn said.

No one was injured, Varn said.

The Red Cross is assisting the families with temporary shelter, Varn said.
