The shooting happened in June, 2014. Jordan Hayes was arrested in connection with the incident two months later.
TRENTON- A Trenton man who was arrested over a year ago in connection with a Hamilton Avenue shooting was given a 5-year-prison sentence Friday.
Jordan Hayes, 28, was originally indicted on counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun in connection with a shooting in the summer of 2014.
He pleaded guilty in January only to the aggravated assault charge, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.
The charges stem from an incident in June, 2014, when a 25-year-old Trenton man was shot in the neck on the 100 block of Hamilton Avenue. Hayes was picked up two months later by he U.S. Marshals Office New York/New Jersey Regional Task Force in connection with the shooting.
The five year sentence that Hayes was issued by Superior Court Judge Pedro Jimenez Friday means that Hayes will have to serve just over four years in jail before he is eligible for parole.
Jimenez said that Hayes only had one prior conviction in 2006 for criminal attempt to commit theft.
