Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol and they don't believe another car ran the woman off the road.
LAWRENCE - A Hamilton woman was killed when the car she was driving crossed a lane of traffic and hit a tree late Friday night.
Police arrived at the scene of the crash on Princeton Pike between Fackler Road and Province Line Road around 11 p.m. Friday after receiving a 911 call about a car off the road, Lawrence police Lt. Tim Drew said.
They found Janice Mason, 57, of Hamilton suffering serious injuries from a car crash. Responders started performing first aid but Mason was pronounced dead a short time later, Drew said.
Man killed by wrong way driver
Police believe Mason was driving southbound on Princeton Pike when she veered over, crossed the northbound lane and hit a tree off the side of the road. A driver passing by saw the car and called police.
Drew said police do not suspect drugs or alcohol. He added that they believe Mason's car was the only one involved in the crash.
They had not determined a cause for the crash Saturday afternoon.
This story has been corrected to reflect that Janice Mason was from Hamilton.
