1 resident dead in Florence condominium fire

Six people were injured and one person died in the fire. Police and firefighters have not named a cause.

FLORENCE - One person was killed and six were injured after a fire burned through a condominium complex in Florence Township Friday night, police said Saturday.

Police and firefighters were called to Florence Tollgate Condominiums around 9:30 p.m. Friday for a fire in building 39, Florence Township Police wrote on their Facebook page

The fire ripped through the building quickly and first responders attempted to rescue people from inside, police said.

Six people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One resident was reported dead after the fire, police said. 

Police are not releasing the name of the victims until their relatives are notified.

Firefighters got the flames under control around 11:30 p.m. Friday. Members of the American Red Cross were helping to find housing for families displaced by the fire. 

Police did not identify a cause for the fire Saturday.
