A crowd of people gathered at North Clinton and Popular streets led to the police search for a gun
TRENTON - Three Trenton residents face charges after trying to hide a handgun during a police search amid a crowd of people Sunday, police said.
Abdul Conway, 46, Christina Hairston, 43 and Lisa Rios, 39, were arrested for their roles in hiding a gun while police were looking for it in a crowd that had gathered at around 12:30 a.m. at North Clinton and Poplar streets, Lt. Stephen Varn said.
The crowd caught the attention of police on patrol and the reaction of Conway to seeing the police raised their suspicion, Varn said.
Conway saw police, grabbed his waistband and turned his back, talking to Rios, Varn said. Conway then removed something from his waistband, put it in Rios' waistband and began to walk away, Varn said.
Police approached both Conway and Rios, who took a few steps away before a silver handgun fell to the ground from her waistband, Varn said. She was caught after a brief chase, Varn said.
Hairston, nearby, kicked the gun away and pushed the officer trying to grab it, Varn said. Hairston started yelling obscenities at police, attracting a crowd, Varn said. She was then arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction and hindering, Varn said. She was release on $2,500 bail, according to police records.
Conway was charged with weapons offenses. His bail was set at $100,000. Rios also was charged with weapons offenses and hindering. Her bail was set at $50,000, according to police records.
