The pair used a BB gun in an attempted robbery of a Trenton man on Saturday, police said
TRENTON - A Trenton woman and a 16-year-old face armed robbery and weapons charges after the pair threatened a man at gunpoint, police said Monday.
Tyquasia Peterson, 19, and a 16-year-old boy approached a 27-year-old man on railroad tracks on the 200 block of North Hermitage Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Saturday and tried to rob him, Lt. Stephen Varn said.
Peterson reached for a handgun and the man punched her, Varn said. The teen jumped in and a struggle ensued, Varn said. The man's backpack was tossed the curb and as he walked to retrieve it, Peterson pulled a gun, Varn said.
The man continued toward his backpack while walking backwards, and then turned to run away, Varn said.
Around the same time, officers were called to the area on a report of gunfire and picked up Peterson and the teen, Varn said. They were charged with possession of a BB gun, Varn said.
An alert was broadcast for the two after the victim called police and Peterson and the teen were charged with the robbery, Varn said. The 16-year-old's name was not released because he is a juvenile.
The teen was taken to Middlesex Youth Detention Center. Peterson was jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to police records.
