Man burned in Hamilton fire moved to Philly burn unit

The 50-year-old man was transferred to the Temple Burn Center in Philadelphia.

HAMILTON -- The man burned when his car caught fire inside his Tar Heels Road home Sunday evening was later transferred to a burn ward in Philadelphia, Hamilton firefighters said Monday.

Fire investigators identified the man as 50 years old, but did not name him. He was initially taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton Sunday after firefighters pulled him from the burning garage shortly before 5 p.m..

He was later transferred to the Temple Burn Center in at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. His exact condition was unknown Monday.

The man's 87-year-old mother suffered minor injuries and was released from a local hospital Monday afternoon, firefighters said.

Hamilton fire investigators said the man suffered a medical attack when he pulled his car into the garage and kept his foot on the gas pedal. The engine eventually caught fire.

Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the garage and pulled the man to safety. He suffered burns and smoke inhalation.

The fire damage was contained to the car and the garage suffered heat and smoke damage, firefighters said.
