HAMILTON TOWNSHIP -- A 23-year-old Mays Landing man was arrested Friday in the Christmas Eve murder of a Trenton man in Atlantic County, authorities announced.
Tyrone V. Hilley is accused of killing 25-year-old Marquis T. Smith.
Hamilton (Atlantic County) police found Smith suffering from multiple gunshot wounds around 9:39 p.m. Dec. 24 near the intersection of Ocean Heights Avenue and Salma Terrace.
He was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Smith had just been released from state prison in August after serving a sentence for the 2011 kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend, records showed.
A two-week investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and Hamilton detectives led to Hilley's arrest Friday morning at a Philadelphia Village apartment in Egg Harbor City, Prosecutor Jim McClain said in a release.
Hilley faces seven charges, including murder, unlawful possession of a .40-caliber handgun and other weapons and drug offenses, McClain said.
He was held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $1 million bail.
A murder conviction carries a potential prison sentence of 30 years to life.
