HAMILTON - State police are investigating the death of a man who was hit on the New Jersey Turnpike Monday morning, authorities said.
Masud Mustafa, 25, of Chesterfield, was crossing the northbound truck lanes of the Turnpike near Exit 7 around 3:50 a.m. when he was hit by a white box truck, Sfc. Gregory Williams said.
The driver of the box truck stopped nearby. Mustafa was pronounced dead at the scene, Williams said.
It was not immediately known why Mustafa was crossing the Turnpike. It did not appear he was driving a car. No car was found in the area, Williams said.
Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in South Jersey
The left lane of the outer roadway and the right lane of the inner roadway were closed for about an hour while State Police investigated.
No other information was immediately available.
It was the second fatal accident in the area Monday morning.
Also around 4 a.m. Monday a pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 130 in Willingboro, Burlington County.
The identity of the Willingboro victim has not been released by police.
