PRINCETON - A theater director at Princeton University died in an accident at his Brooklyn, N.Y. home Monday, according to a representative for the Lewis Center for the Arts.
Tim Vasen, who was 51, started as a faculty member at the university in 1993 and was named theater director in 2012, a post he held until his sudden death Monday, Steve Runk of the Lewis Center said. Princeton University is not releasing more details on the nature of Vasen's death.
"These are very sudden circumstances," Runk said.
In the 20 years that he taught at Princeton, Vasen instructed some, "well accomplished" graduates in theater, including Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, a playwright who recently won two Obie Awards, Runk said.
Vasen also helped launch "Re: Staging the Greeks," a course that the center called "a conduit between Princeton students and Greek theater artists," on their website.

In addition to Princeton University, Vasen worked as an adviser, directing Yale School of Drama masters students and he spent time as the Resident Director at Centerstage in Baltimore, according to the website.
He has also taught or directed at multiple institutions including New York University and the Academy for Classical Acting at the Shakespeare Theater in Washington.
Runk said the university is working on an obituary for Vasen and that a memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. on Sunday at 185 Nassau Street on the university's campus.
