Police spokesman Lt. Stephen Varn said police were called to the 700 block of Franklin Street in Trenton at 4:20 a.m. and found a man who reported being robbed on South Broad Street of his phone.

The victim said two men with knives fled the robbery in an unknown direction.

Varn said the victim suffered cuts to both of his hands and head after he tried fighting off the robbers.

The man was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. Varn said there was no other information Sunday afternoon on the condition of the victim.

Varn said the victim told police he was walking on South Broad Street near Liberty Street when he was approached by two men, one wearing a red sweatshirt and one a blue sweatshirt. The men demanded money from him.

"The victim said he didn't have any (money)," Varn said. "A struggle ensued and during it the victim was struck on the top of the head with a knife. He suffered lacerations to both hands too."

He said the men then stole the victim's phone and fled.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact Trenton police detectives at 609-989-4155 or leave an anonymous tip at 609-989-3663.
