Police are investigating the cause of the fire, which occurred on Route 1 in Lawrence Township Friday evening.
LAWRENCE - A man was taken to the hospital with burns to his upper body after a car fire on Route 1 on Christmas day, Lawrence police said.
File photo of a Lawrence police car Richard Silverstein, 35, of Kendall Park was brought to the hospital with burns to his face, arms and torso, according to a press release from Lawrence Township police.
Officers arrived at the scene on Route 1 near Whitehead Road around 6:30 p.m. Friday to find a 2004 Honda CRV off the side of the road, engulfed in flames, the release said.

Silverstein was outside of the car with burns on his upper body. He was transported to the Temple University Burn Center in Philadelphia for his injuries. He was the only person in the car, the release said.
Police and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the fire.
