HAMILTON -- Football kickers don't often get the recognition they deserve, but it's impossible to ignore how good Steinert High School junior kicker Jordan Goodarz was for the Spartans in 2015.
Goodarz, easily one of Steinert's best overall players, nailed clutch kicks throughout the season.
He delivered his best performance of the year on November 13 during a 16-7 postseason victory over Burlington Township, accounting for 10 of the Spartans' 16 points. The junior nailed a trio of clutch field goals and an extra point during the contest to seal the victory and send the Spartans to the next round of the playoffs.
"Special teams, we do it every single day, and we know we are good at it," Goodarz told NJ Advance Media after the win, clearly pleased with how he and the special teams unit performed during the contest.
"Jake Jones is a good punter. He pinned them deep back there. On my field goals, I just went in with confidence. I was loose from playing on the field, so I felt good. Today the three field goals were the difference. I am happy that the coaches have confidence in me," Goodarz said.
Jones felt the same way.
"We have trained very well over the past week, and we wanted to come out here and play well, and get the win," Jones said after the win. "This is the first step for us. Coach (Dan) Caruso has been saying to create your own dynasty, we have to keep our hopes contained, stay focused, and play Steinert football."
Goodarz and the Spartans certainly did just that on Nov. 13 against Burlington Township to the delight of Caruso, who was clearly very proud of the way his kicker and the rest of his team performed.
"It seemed like a lot went our way in that first half, but that is because of the kids' effort," Caruso told NJ Advance Media after the game.
