Mercer County nonprofit Christine's Hope for Kids does what it can to help end hunger several times during the year. Summer, school vacations and whenever the school supplemental meals stop, that is when the need is great. Thanks to CHFK's Bagging Summer Hunger program, these children receive a breakfast and lunch bag.
Across New Jersey, many children get a free or discounted school lunch every day and many children also receive breakfast. It is a way to ensure that children have something to eat every day, giving them a foundation for learning.
But when children are not attending school during prolonged school breaks, do they go hungry? Not if Christine's Hope for Kids (CHFK) has anything to do with it. Hunger does not go on vacation.

Thanks to CHFK's Bagging Summer Hunger program, these children receive a breakfast and lunch bag.
Christine's Hope for Kids also believes in teaching others how to make a difference. It is also about kids helping kids. That is why CHFK enlists the help of area schools and camps. Students and campers collect items for the bags and CHFK makes additions as necessary.
Then the kids pack all the bags and get them ready for distribution. Many times the students decorate the bags and add positive phrases and words of encouragement. The bags have cereal, a juice box, granola bars and a fruit snack inside.
"We are proud to provide an opportunity for kids to work together to help kids in need, right here in our own community," said Jean Gianacaci, founder of Christine's Hope for Kids.
Your donation to the 2015 Times Annual Appeal will help Christine's Hope for Kids continue its mission to help kids in need in our community.
NJM Insurance group of West Trenton has pledged to donate $1,000 for every $5,000 contributed by the community and other business donors throughout the 2015 campaign.

All gifts will be acknowledged in The Times. Anonymity will be granted if requested.
