Elvin Kimble, 19, died in a hail of gunfire in a shootout in a North Trenton neighborhood early Tuesday morning, authorities said
TRENTON - A 19-year-old Trenton man whose body was found behind a house Tuesday morning has been identified as Elvin Kimble, who died in a hail of gunfire in a shootout in a North Trenton neighborhood, authorities said.
The Mercer County Prosector's Office did not say where or how many times Kimble was hit during a 12:40 a.m. shootout on Rusling Street that involved at least one other person, littering the street with bullets and hitting numerous parked cars.
Kimble's body was found behind a house on the 700 block of Division Street, about a half block away from the shootout, according to Casey DeBlasio, spokeswoman for the prosecutor's office.
A gun was found near Kimble's body, DeBlasio said.
EARLIER: Body found in Trenton neighborhood where gunfire was reported
It appears Kimble was involved in a shootout at Chestnut and Rusling and was able to run to Rusling and Division streets, where he collapsed and died, DeBlasio said.
Trenton police were called to Chestnut and Rusling streets around 12:40 a.m. on a report of a shooting in progress. Officers found multiple spent shell casings and saw several parked cars that were hit by gunfire in what appeared to be a gunfight between people on either side of Rusling Street, DeBlasio said.
Around 6:15 officers were called back to the area when a resident reported a bullet hole in a parked car. While there, police were tipped to the location of Kimble's body, partially obstructed by a parked van behind the Division Street house, DeBlasio said.
No other shooting victims have been located, DeBlasio said.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is continuing the investigation, DeBlasio said.
Kimble's death marks the first homicide in nearly two months in Trenton.
James Wells, a well-known and popular Trenton business owner, was beaten to death on Sept. 25.
