TRENTON --Extinguishing a heavy fire at a 2-story semi-attached home on William Street, the Trenton Fire Department said it prevented the fire from spreading to the next residence early Saturday morning.

Firefighters arrived at 737 William Street at 3:30 a.m. Saturday and found the first floor and enclosed porch engulfed in flames, fire officials confirmed.
The fire was put out in roughy 25 minutes, and firefighters found the home empty in primary and secondary searches for people inside.

While the residence is supposed to be vacant, neighbors reported to the fire department that the structure was used by squatters, according to fire officials.
The fire department's Fire Marshal Unit is investigating the fire, and the cause is unknown at this time.
