The fire department received a 1:30 p.m. call that a riderless watercraft was floating down the Delaware River.
TRENTON -- City firefighters retrieved an unoccupied personal watercraft from the Delaware River Friday afternoon and later found the craft was recently abandoned along the river.
Trenton Fire Battalion Chief Steve Coltre said the rescue and marine company launched a boat and their own watercraft after receiving a 1:30 p.m. call that a riderless personal watercraft was floating down the river.
Once located, the firefighters realized the craft had no engine. The units did a quick search of the area to make sure no victims were in the water, Coltre said.
A later call to Morrisville, Pa. police found that agency was familiar with the craft and that it was recently abandoned on their shore, but had yet to be removed, Colrtre said. It likely became dislodged from the shore and started floating south, the chief said.
Trenton firefighters brought the craft on shore and a city towing vendor took possession.
