Daniel Fantozzi, 17, of Florence, was the driver of a sport-utility vehicle that overturned on Route 129 in Trenton after crashing into two other vehicles Oct. 29.
TRENTON -- A Notre Dame High School student has been issued a summons in connection with a crash late last month that severely injured a 16-year-old classmate he was driving to school, police said.
Daniel Fantozzi, 17, of Florence, was the driver of a sport-utility vehicle that overturned on Route 129 in Trenton after crashing into two other vehicles on the morning of Oct. 29.
Trenton police issued Fantozzi a summons for reckless driving. Police spokesman Lt. James Slack said an investigation by Detective Craig Kirk found the case of the crash was driver inattention.
The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office also investigated the crash and found no criminality, officials said.
Fantozzi's passenger's name was not made public by authorities. The 16-year-old was trapped in the smoking, overturned vehicle until freed by Trenton firefighters. He was taken to a city hospital in critical condition.
The teen's condition was unknown Monday, but police said he survived the crash and their last report was that he was improving.

Fantozzi, who suffered a minor injury, was northbound on the highway between Lalor and Cass streets when his vehicle clipped a curb and crossed into the southbound lanes, where it collided with two southbound vehicles.
The other vehicles were also sport-utility vehicles.
A 37-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter were in one vehicle and a 36-year-old man from Howell was in another.
All three were taken to the Trenton hospital and were treated and released.
Fantozzi and his passenger are football players at Notre Dame High School in Lawrence, and both live in Florence, officials have said.
Notre Dame's principal MaryLiz Ivins was unavailable for comment Monday. The school's Athletic Director Richard Roche deferred comment to school authorities.
