Hamilton's Engine 16 arrived at the home on Mae Drive at about 1:30 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from the home.

HAMILTON -- A husband and wife were taken a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation early Wednesday after escaping a fire in their Yardville Heights home.

Hamilton's Engine 16 arrived at the home on Mae Drive at about 1:30 a.m. and found heavy fire coming from the front of the split-level house, fire District 3 Lt. Tim Sharpley said.

Firefighters from three districts extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes under the direction of acting Fire Chief Steven Kraemer, Sharpley said.

The homeowners, who were not identified, did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation Wednesday by the district fire marshal, Sharpley said.

Truck 13, Engine 19, Engine 18, Tower 17 and Special Services 15 - all from Hamilton - also responded to the blaze.
