Reginald Dawkins was taken into custody after police called about an armed man on the bus.
TRENTON -- Police arrested a Trenton man on an NJ Transit bus Tuesday night with a replica handgun.
Reginald Dawkins, 28, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon following the incident, which started with an officer being tipped that a man had boarded a bus in the city's West Ward with a handgun, police said.
Police Sgt. Anthony Manzo - working an off-duty side job in the city - received the tip at about 7 p.m. and alerted patrol officers, who met with him and they went after the bus, the 608.
Manzo and Patrol Officers Vincent Gribbin and Samuel Santiago found the bus on West State Street near Hermitage Avenue and stopped it at the Gouverneur Avenue intersection, police said.
They allegedly found Dawkins - who met the tipster's description - sitting on the bus and a search yielded a handgun later determined to be a replica.
An initial version of this story included the wrong mugshot for Dawkins. The story has been updated with the correct photo
