The driver, a city resident, was traveling east on Lalor Street when his car was struck by a tow truck that was southbound on Route 129.

TRENTON -- A 24-year-old man was critically injured in a collision on Route 129 at Lalor Street Friday night, Trenton police said.

The man, a city resident police did not identify, was the driver of a car traveling east on Lalor Street that was struck by a tow truck that was southbound on Route 129 at about 9:05 p.m.

Police suspect the man disregarded a red traffic light when entering the intersection. The impact of the crash drove his car into a metal traffic post.

A passenger in the man's car, a 23-year-old city woman, was injured in the crash, but has since been released from a local hospital, Trenton police spokesman Lt, Stephen Varn said Monday.

The tow truck driver was not seriously injured, Varn said.

The 24-year-old man was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. He suffered a brain injury and remained in critical condition Monday.

Trenton police Detective Craig Kirk is investigating the crash. The Trenton Fire Department cut the driver from his car and Trenton EMS also responded.

In April, 56-year-old crossing guard Antonio Wiley was struck and killed by a northbound pickup truck as he crossed a pedestrian at the intersection.
