The 20-year-old woman lived in the apartment where she was found.

TRENTON -- Authorities identified the woman shot dead Friday morning in Trenton's West Ward as 20-year-old city woman Keyauna Hughey.

Trenton police officers responding to an 11:13 a.m. call reporting a female shot in an apartment in the 200 block of Spring Street found her in a second-floor bedroom, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office said.

Hughey had a gunshot wound to the shoulder area. She was pronounced dead at the scene, the prosecutor's office said. She lived in the Spring Street apartment.

The prosecutor's office did not make public any other details about the crime, saying the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton police are investigating.

Trenton police radios at the scene crackled with information about a description of a possible gunman, but officers say nobody has been immediately identified as a suspect.

Hughey's apartment was just feet from a Trenton police portable light system the department uses occasionally to illuminate areas at night to deter street crimes and loitering, and give residents relief.

Woman shot to death in Trenton

Hughey's killing is the second shooting on the block this week.

At about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, police responded for a report of shots fired and found that a 27-year-old man had been taken to the hospital by a family member.

That victim later told police that he was outside with a group of people when he heard several gunshots and felt pain in his upper right arm. The wound to his arm is not life threatening.

The shootings follow a homicide and three other shootings that occurred over Labor Day weekend.

Anyone with information about Hughey's death is asked to call task force Detective Jason Snyder or Sgt. Brian Egan at 609-989-6406.

Individuals may also call the Trenton police confidential at 609-989-3663 or the Trenton Crime Stoppers tipline at 609-278-8477, or text a tip labeld TCSTIPS to Trenton Crime Stoppers at at 274637.
