Police are searching for a man they say should be considered "armed and dangerous."
UPDATE: 54-year-old man wounded in Florence shooting
FLORENCE -- Township police closed a portion of West Front Street Friday morning and township schools were locked down as officers search for a possibly armed man following a shooting.
The police department announced the incident on their Facebook page shortly before 10 a.m.
West Front Street is closed between Woodlawn Avenue and Bodine Street, the post said.
"Police are looking for a black male wearing dark clothing and long pants with towel wrapped around his head. Suspect should be considered armed and dangerous," the post said.
No other details of the incident were immediately available.
The township's three schools were briefly placed on lockout, meaning students were able to move throughout the buildings but no one was being allowed in or out.
It was lifted just before noon. All visitors must present a photo ID to enter any building and, as a precaution, there will be additional police presence at dismissal.
It's the second search this week in which Florence police closed roads and alerted the public.
Stabbing suspect charged with attempted murder
Following the stabbing of a woman Wednesday evening on the 200 block of 5th Avenue, police closed several streets and neighboring departments set up roadblocks in the search for a suspect who allegedly stabbed a woman.
On Thursday morning, at about 6:30 a.m., Florence police apprehended 20-year-old Akil Herbert.
He's charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a woman multiple times.
The woman, an acquaintance of Herbert, was found lying on the sidewalk with several stab wounds. She was taken to a hospital, but her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
