The economic development nonprofit will share space with the city's visitor center

TRENTON -- Greater Trenton, the economic development nonprofit that was formed last fall in hopes of revitalizing the state's capital city, announced Thursday that it is setting up its headquarters in the Old Masonic Temple.

The historic building is owned by the Masons and is used by the Trenton Downtown Association as the city's visitors center.

"Greater Trenton was created to work collaboratively with the private sector, community organizations, the city, as well as state and local leaders, and it is in this spirit of collaboration that we've achieved this great result," said George Sowa, the group's founding CEO. "I cannot think of a better environment or location than this historic building in downtown Trenton to work on developing and advancing revitalization efforts for this great city."

Built in 1793 at the intersection of Front and Willow streets, the Old Masonic Temple is across the street from the Old Barracks and steps away from the Statehouse. In 1915, it was moved a half-block south to 102 Barrack Street when a new building was constructed for the Trenton Lodge.

Greater Trenton was launched last October with plans aimed at coordinating downtown economic development projects; providing one-stop support and information for investors; reaching out to prospective residential, commercial or retail investors and tenants; supporting and promoting existing downtown initiatives; engaging downtown stakeholders in a strategic economic development plan; and developing investment marketing strategies.

The organization also launched its website at greatertrenton.org.
