Police from the Street Crimes unit went to the 100 block of Oliver Street after Shot Spotter alerted police to seven gunshots in the area around 12:30 a.m.
TRENTON - A Shot Spotter activation and a bomb-sniffing dog led police to charge two area men with shooting a handgun in a Trenton neighborhood Tuesday, police said.
Police from the Street Crimes unit went to the 100 block of Oliver Street after Shot Spotter alerted police to seven gunshots in the area around 12:30 a.m., Lt. James Slack said.
Shot Spotter is a gunshot detection system installed at numerous locations throughout Trenton that helps police find the location of gunfire.
Police on the scene found three, .380-caliber shell casings in the area and questioned two men, but no gun was found, Slack said.
A bomb-sniffing dog was called in and directed officers to a back room of a house, where police found a handgun, Slack said.
Brandon S. Fletcher, 25, of Hamilton and Phillip Forston, 24, of Ewing, were charged with weapons possession and discharging a weapon in a residential neighborhood. Forston also was charged with unlawful taking and simple assault.
