TRENTON - A Trenton man faces assault by auto charges after hitting an 81-year-old woman with his car and leaving the scene, police said Wednesday.
Andres Mutata, 41, was driving a red, 1999 Honda Civic north on the 600 block of South Broad Street near Ferry Street around 7 p.m. Tuesday when he hit the 81-year-old woman and another woman who were crossing the street, Lt. James Slack said.
Mutata then left the scene, Slack said.
The 81-year-old was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center Hamilton with minor injuries. The second woman, whose age was unavailable Wednesday, was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, also with minor injuries, Slack said.
Two hours later, police found Matuta around the corner from the accident at his home on Ferry Street, Slack said.
Mutata was charged with assault by auto, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and being an unlicensed driver. His bail information was not immediately available, according to police records.
