The player was pulled unconscious from the deep end of Nottingham High School's indoor pool Wednesday evening.

HAMILTON -- The Hamilton Township school district made no public statements nor returned requests for comment Friday seeking information about the near-drowning of a football player Wednesday night.

The player, described by first responders as an incoming freshman football player for Nottingham High School, was pulled unconscious from the deep end of the high school's indoor pool Wednesday evening and had to be resuscitated, officials said.

The teen was taken to a local hospital following the 6 p.m. incident.

First responders say he was later transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.

On Friday, a township police spokesman said the department has no involvement in the incident, and they've not spoken to the school district.

Township police confirmed Thursday they responded to a report of an unconscious juvenile in the pool Wednesday evening and the person was resuscitated with CPR.

The police department said they had no further involvement after an EMS crew arrived.

It remains unclear who resuscitated the player, and his current medical condition.

A spokeswoman for Robert Wood Johnson's Hamilton campus, which provides basic life-support ambulance services for Hamilton, said the unit that responded to the call reported the patient was resuscitated before their arrival.

Nottingham High School's athletic director, Debra Taylor, did not immediately respond to an email sent to her school address.

Nottingham football coach Jon Adams has declined to comment.

An NJ Advance Media photographer who arrived at the school Friday to take pictures of the team for sports coverage was told the football practice had been canceled.
