Both will undergo a "super-chlorination" procedure to kill the bacteria and restore chlorine to an appropriate level.

TRENTON -- The city closed two of it's public pools Thursday after water quality tests found high levels of bacteria, the city said.

City spokesman Michael Walker said routine tests caused the city to close Roberto Clemente pool on Academy Street and Martin Luther King pool on Brunswick Pike.

The pools remained closed today.

"There are many factors that contribute to this condition, including higher than normal heat this summer which rapidly dissipates chlorine levels," Walker said in a statement.

Both will undergo a "super-chlorination" procedure to kill the bacteria and restore chlorine to an appropriate level, Walker said.

Pools reopen after city pays vendor $41K

This process takes 48 hours, and was ongoing Friday.

Cooper pool on Union Street in South Trenton and Father Rocco (Calhoun) pool on New Willow Street in North Trenton are unaffected and remain open.

Walker said the YMCA of Trenton's pool at 431 Pennington Ave. is also open to the general public.

The city's pools were closed for an afternoon in July during a disagreement over a payment between city officials and a vendor that runs and staffs the pools.
