David Owle and Daniel Smith, were both charged with receiving stolen property
LOWER MAKEFIELD, Pa. -- Police say a township resident arrived at his Black Rock Road home Monday night just in time to see two thieves drive off with his car.
The man drove after his 2001 white Infiniti as he called police and reported his locations to a dispatcher, Lower Makefield police said. The pursuit continued over the Calhoun Street Bridge into Trenton.
The incident, which began at about 7:40 p.m., ended when Trenton police found the vehicle in the city about 10 minutes later and arrested two men, David Francis Owle and Danny Smith.
Trenton Detectives Stuart Owens and Jose Gonzalez, who were initially called to Calhoun and West Hanover streets to check for the stolen vehicle, spotted it minutes later on Jarvis Place off Prospect Street about a half-mile away, police said.
The suspects tried to run, but the officers quickly apprehended them.
Police say Owle, 36, of Hamilton, was driving the vehicle and Smith, 24, of Ewing, was a passenger.
The two face charges in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
In Trenton, both men were charged with receiving stolen property. Smith was also charged with having a hypodermic needle and syringe, hindering apprehension, having a suspended license and being an unlicensed driver.
Police across the river charged the duo with burglary and auto theft.
The homeowner had also reported to police that jewelry, cash and electronics had been taken from his house.
