Former Monmouth County prosecutor Luis Valentin pleaded guilty to refusal to submit to a breath alcohol test
EAST WINDSOR - A former Monmouth County prosecutor has admitted to refusing a breath alcohol test after being stopped last year and had his license suspended for seven months, according to a report.
Luis A. Valentin's pleaded guilty in March to refusal to submit to a breath alcohol test in East Windsor in March, APP.com said.
Valentin was also ordered to use an ignition interlock for six months. The device won't allow a vehicle to be started if the driver's blood alcohol content is above the legal limit.
The other charges against the 50-year-old Manalapan resident -- careless driving, reckless driving and failing to maintain a lane -- were dismissed.
He also paid $306 in fines, the report said.
Valentin was the first Hispanic county prosecutor in New Jersey when he was appointed by then-Gov. Richard Codey in 2005. Gov. Chris Christie chose not to re-appoint Valentin in 2010 when his five-year term expired.
Valentin previously worked with Christie at the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey, where he served as chief of the violent crimes unit. Valentin also worked as an assistant prosecutor in Hudson County.
