After refusing to hand over money or her phone, a woman's confrontation with her attacker turned bloody, police said.
TRENTON - An armed robbery turned violent Saturday when one woman refused to handover her money or cell phone to her assailant, according to Trenton Police.
A woman, who police have identified as a 48-year-old city resident, was walking home from a friend's house on Butler Street at 2:20 p.m. when she was approached by the suspect -- a woman who had been hanging out in nearby Cadwalader Park, police said.
The suspect, Sharena Spruill, 34, of Carroll Street approached her would-be victim as she walked past and began demanding money, police said
The woman refused Spruill's demands and kept walking.
Police say Spruill became angry. She began following the woman and yelling profanities, then she ran in front of the woman and tried to wrestle the woman's phone from her hands.
When Spruill couldn't free the phone from her victim's hands she pulled out a pocket knife and swung it at her victim, lacerating her right temple, authorities said.
Spruill then walked away, but a nearby witness saw the entire encounter. The witness called police and kept Spruill in sight until police arrived, police said.
Officers arrested Spruill and the victim positively identified her as the attacker at the scene.
Police say the victim was treated by EMTs at the scene but refused hospital treatment.
Spruill has been charged with robbery and her bail has been set at $50,000, police said.
