Hits and Misses: Ugandan baseball, food truck fight

HIT: The game between the Ugandan Little League and Chambersburg Little League in the city as part of Major League Baseball's "Play Ball" initiative. In the spirit of fairness and goodwill, the traditional three-out innings were extended so that every player got a chance at bat before teams switched sides.

HIT: The design this year at New Jersey's longest running corn maze, at the Howell Living History Farm, which this year is "Don't Be Chicken," a part-maze, part-scavenger hunt and part-educational quiz.

HIT: Two food truck festivals in Trenton this year: the Food Truck Festival at Trenton Social on Sept. 19, and the Capital City Food Truck Battle the following day at Rho.

MISS: The quarreling by TC Nelson and Joseph Kuzemka which led to two festivals. The two worked together on last year's solo event at Nelson's restaurant, but they have parted ways and are each running a festival.

HIT: The Trenton Thunder's new General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Jeff Hurley, a Mercer County native who went to Steinert High School and lives in Robbinsville.

MISS: The Thunder being eliminated from the Eastern League playoffs this week with a 6-5 loss in 12 innings to the New Britain Rock Cats.  

WILL BE MISSED: Will Smith, the Thunder's general manager the past seven years, who was named president and operating partner for the Staten Island Yankees, the Yankees Class-A affiliate. Congratulations Will.

HIT: James Gaines plan to open an an all-purpose community center for children and their families in the shuttered Skelton library in Trenton, building on a successful program he built in Florida.
