BORDENTOWN CITY-- The New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard are searching Sunday for the body of a man who jumped off a boat into the Delaware River.

State Police were notified about 7 a.m. that the man was missing near the Bordentown Yacht Club, State Police Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams said.

"It is believed he went in for a swim and didn't come back up," Williams said. He said the man is in his 30s.

He said a State Police Marine Unit and a helicopter were involved in the search, along with a Coast Guard rescue boat and a Trenton Fire Department boat, Williams said.

It was not immediately clear why the man was out on the boat.

The base for the search was set up at the end of West Park Street, which was closed to the public and news reporters Sunday afternoon.

Several boats packed with crews of divers patrolled the waters around the banks and under Interstate 295 as other officers patrolled the shore.

They had set up tents and parked at least two ambulances at the scene but there was no sign of the man around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
