The building, which houses the state Supreme Court and the Office of the Attorney General, was evacuated Wednesday morning due to a Freon leak.

TRENTON -- The Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton will remain closed Thursday, the state judiciary said Wednesday afternoon.

The building, which houses the state Supreme Court and the Office of the Attorney General, was evacuated Wednesday morning due to a Freon leak at the building, officials said.

All scheduled court matters for Thursday will be rescheduled, the judiciary said.

Earlier Wednesday, officials said the leak had been contained, but testing was producing readings at higher than acceptable levels.

State workers started receiving phone calls around 8 a.m. Wednesday alerting them to the closure and the judiciary sent a notice about the closure by email at 8:49 a.m.

The building, which has more than a million square feet of space, also includes offices for the Division of Criminal Justice and the Office of the Public Defender.
