Ikeem Hairston swallowed loose cocaine, police say, before officers apprehended him and found 7 grams of the drug.
TRENTON -- A Trenton man has been charged with attempting to swallow cocaine and resisting arrest when officers approached him, police said.
Patrol officers found Ikeem Hairston, 26, just before 1 a.m. Thursday, engaging in drug activities on the 100 block of Walnut street, police spokesman Lt. Stephen Varn said.
When officers approached Hairston, he ran to his vehicle, Varn said. Police ordered Hairston to put his hands up, at which point, he dropped bagged cocaine, Varn said.
Before officers could get to him, Hairston swallowed some remaining cocaine, Varn said. Officers told the 26-year-old he was under arrest, and Hairston struggled with officers.
Hairston was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Varn said. Officers found seven grams of cocaine and $58 suspected to be proceeds from a narcotic deal, Varn said.
Hairston has been charged with possession of CDS, intent to distribute CDS within 1000 feet of a school, resisting arrest, obstructing, tampering with evidence and hindering apprehension.
