Police do not believe there is a threat to the general public
ROBBINSVILLE -- Robbinsville police say they now believe the armed robbery of two teenage girls Thursday was not a random act.
The girls, ages 16 and 17, told police they were in a wooded area near the cul-de-sac at the end of Line Road when a masked man pointed a small black handgun at them and stole their purses.
The girls were not injured in the 4:45 p.m. incident.
"After further investigation ... it has been determined the alleged crime appears not be a random act," police said Friday.
Police are continuing to investigate but say they do not believe there is a threat to the general public.
A suspect has been identified, they said. He had been described as black, 6-feet tall and wearing black sweatpants, a black hoodie and white bandana over his face.
Several police officers and K-9 units and a New Jersey State Police helicopter searched the area Thursday evening but did not locate the suspect.
