The fair, in its seventh season, runs weekends through June 12.

BORDENTOWN -- Thousands of people flocked to the New Jersey Renaissance Faire Saturday as it kicked off its seventh season in Bordentown Township, where revelers were greeted with a wide variety of entertainment, food and artisan merchants.

Set on the grounds of the picturesque Liberty Lake, the fair allowed guests to step back in time to the 1500s for a glimpse of life on the English countryside.

Guests enjoyed watching various acts, including a jousting tournament, a human chess match, juggling, fire breathing, aerial daredevilry, comedy and music entertainment. There were 10 stages set throughout the grounds.

The family-friendly event offered guests a combination of education and entertainment, organizers said.

According to April Cory, general manager of the fair, this year there were more than 90 trained cast professional and volunteer members ranging in age from 16 to over 60. Many of the actors were part of an interactive street cast walking around the festival entertaining the guests.

"This Renaissance Faire is known for being the most interactive faire of its kind," Cory said.

This weekend includes special attractions like the Scottish Highland Games, bagpipe rockers Cu Dubh, performer Jacques Ze Whipper and a Shakespeare variety show.

The fair started on Saturday and and runs weekends through June 12, 10 a.m to 6 p.m.
