The pizzeria first made pies on Hudson Street in Trenton's Chambersburg neighborhood in 1947, and opened a location in Robbinsville in 2007.
LOWER MAKEFIELD, Pa. -- DeLorenzo's Tomato Pies, a staple among Trenton-area pizza parlors since 1947, is opening a second location across the Delaware River, the Bucks County Courier Times reported.
The restaurant will occupy the first floor of a building with apartments above called Makefield Glenn, at the intersection of Yardley-Langhorne and Edgewood roads, the paper reported.
The Lower Makefield board of supervisor granted unanimous final approval for the project at this week's meeting, the paper said.
The pizzeria opened on Hudson Street in Trenton's Chambersburg neighborhood in 1947. Owners the Amico family opened a second location in Robbinsville in 2007, with the Trenton location eventually closing down in 2012.
In 2014, the family planned a 110-seat location location in Newtown, in Bucks County, but eventually withdrew its application over zoning issues.
DeLorenzo's Tomato Pies on Hudson Street serves up its final day
"We just decided to move on. We're in the midst of a few different things, but there's nothing really else I can say," owner Sam Amico said at the time. "We decided to move on and go somewhere else."
DeLorenzo's is constant on numerous lists ranking the best pizza in the state of New Jersey, and beyond.
In January, NJ Advance Media ranked them #4 on their N.J. Pizza Power Rankings top 25, noting that the move from city to the suburbs had not diminished their pie making.
"And while the setting has gone from old-school hangout to upscale strip mall, De Lo's still makes great pizza. High quality ingredients; distinctive, dynamite crusts."
Sam Amico was not immediately available Friday to discuss the new Pa. location.
