Two area schools, including one in Princeton, also were investigated Thursday after receiving bomb threats

PRINCETON - Princeton High School students and staff were evacuated after a fake bomb threat was received by the school, police said Friday.

It was the second time in as many days that a Princeton public school was targeted. Riverside Elementary school on Thursday also received a bomb threat on Thursday, as well as Allentown High School in Monmouth County.

No bomb was found Friday. Students and faculty were allowed back in the building around 1:45 p.m., police said.

The high school's front office around 11:15 a.m. received a pre-recorded message from a man claiming to be in the parking lot who put a bomb inside the school, according to Steve Cochrane, superintendent of Princeton Public Schools.

Princeton police swept the outside of the school and evacuated staff and students while bomb-sniffing dogs walked through the interior of the school, Cochrane said.

"Based on their investigation, the police believe today's threat to once again be a hoax known as 'swatting,'" Cochrane said. "Our police do not believe there was a credible threat today at PHS or at any other school in Princeton."

Two area schools, including one in Princeton, were investigated Thursday for unfounded bomb threats. Police in those instances said the threats followed the same pattern as numerous other threats received by schools and other institutions throughout New Jersey last school year.
