ALLENTOWN -- Allentown High School celebrated Senior Day on April 26, but based on senior lacrosse attacker Mike Dacey's performance that afternoon, the day should've been named after him.
Thanks to an outstanding showing by Dacey, who tallied seven goals and two assists, Allentown squashed West Windsor-Plainsboro North 17-8.
The talented senior got off to a hot start by scoring three of his seven goals in the first quarter of the contest, giving the Redbirds an early lead. But Dacey wasn't done, adding four more scores en route to the win.
"This was a nice game to win and now we're finally at .500," Dacey told NJ Advance Media after the rout. "It's been a while watching all the seniors in front of me the past three years and its nice to be in this spot for once. The goals are nice but ground balls and rides are just as important.
"We try and forget about our past since we had such a slow start. Once we start playing as a team, as a unit, good things happen. So, that's what we've got to get back to. We've still got plenty of tough games ahead with Watchung Hills tomorrow and Hopewell right after that, and playing good teams like that can only make you better."
Dacey refused to take all the credit for the victory, instead praising his team's performance as a whole.
"We have all the potential in the world, but it's just accessing that potential," said Dacey. "It's been slow to get there but once we see that light we'll be a better team."
Allentown coach Carl Schubauer was happy with the way Dacey and the rest of his team stepped up and performed on Senior Day.
"We're slowly getting there," Schubauer told NJ Advance Media after the win. "We've seen progress each game and today I liked the way we all came together and I liked how the offense clicked today. I was happy with that. We saw a lot and how it came together today and I'm very proud of them."
