Steven Mayer, 52, was struck and killed by a car driven by a high school senior as he jogged with his dog last month.
ROBBINSVILLE - Authorities continue to investigate the death of Steve Mayer, the Robbinsville schools superintendent struck and killed while jogging last month.
Mayer was hit by a car driven by a 17-year-old Robbinsville High School senior on her way to a class trip.
Robbinsville police recently made public about an hour of audio files containing police radio communications during the police department's response to the early-morning April 19 crash on Robbinsville-Edinburg Road.
The recordings - obtained through the state's Open Public Records Act (OPRA) - indicate that the teen driver stopped at Pond Road Middle School to call police after hitting Mayer and his dog, which also died at the scene.
The girls father joined her at the middle school a few minutes after the crash, according to the audio files.
The girl, who has not been identified, called 911 and told authorities she believed her car struck someone on Robbinsville-Edinburg Road, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office has said.
Police and prosecutors have cited the girl's age and privacy restrictions to deny a request - also through OPRA - to make public the recording of her 911 call.
N.J. superintendent's legacy will live on
No charges have been filed, no citations have been issued and the incident remains under investigation, Casey DeBlasio, spokeswoman for the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office, said Tuesday.
The prosecutor's office, the lead agency investigating the crash, declined to comment on the recordings.
The girl was driving north on Robbinsville-Edinburg Road, headed to the high school to catch a bus for a class trip to New York City, and was running late, sources have previously told NJ Advance Media.
Thousands packed a memorial service for the 52-year-old Mayer on April 22. His wife, Donna, a teacher in the Robbinsville School District, spoke through tears at the April
"Steve was a light everywhere he went -- his smile, his exuberance, his love, his compassion -- and what I visualize is pieces of my beloved husband all over this world."
