Aleem Harris pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and attempted murder in February
TRENTON - A Hamilton man claimed he was "under the influence" when he pushed a gun through the doorjamb of a Michael Drive apartment three years ago and shot a woman in the chest.
Aleem Harris, 22, apologized for the attack during a sentencing Friday, calling himself, "young and foolish," at the time.
He was given seven years in prison and must serve 85 percent of that before he is eligible for parole.
It's been nearly three years since the incident. The woman who was shot has recovered but decided not to appear in court Friday, Mercer County Prosecutors said.
They said Harris was chasing two men - one of whom was the woman's son - in October, 2013, when the men ran into the woman's apartment.
Harris tried to follow and pushed on the front door of the apartment as the victims pushed back. He was able to fit his gun through the doorjamb and fired four shots into the apartment.

One shot hit the mother in the chest and she was rushed to the hospital. Harris fled the scene but later turned himself in to police.
Prosecutors said Friday that the woman recovered but still suffers lasting effects from her injuries.
Harris took a deal and pleaded guilty to attempted murder and aggravated assault in February.
On Friday he addressed the courtroom and apologized for the attack, saying that he was under the influence and that he'd "lashed out."
"This is not the life I want to live," he said.
