Steven Turner, a controller for UPS, was convicted of not paying $248,000 in taxes
TRENTON - A millionaire executive with United Parcel Service was convicted last week of not paying $248,000 in taxes, authorities said.
Steven Turner, 63, of New Hope, Pa., was convicted by a Mercer County jury of third-degree failure to pay income taxes in 2008, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office said.
Turner, of New Hope, Pa., was indicted on Oct. 30, 2013 following an investigation by the New Jersey Division of Taxation, prosecutors said.
Turner was paid $2.2 million as controller for UPS in 2008 and he was living in a house valued at $1 million with his wife, prosecutors said.
There were judgements against Turner and his wife in November, 2008 stemming from unpaid 2007 taxes. Turner satisfied those judgements on April 13, 2009. The following day, Turner filed his tax return, but no payments, prosecutors said.
The final tally of Turner's unpaid taxes was $248,731.39, prosector's said.
Third degree crimes carry a sentence of three- to five years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000. Turner is scheduled for sentencing on June 17, prosecutors said.
