EWING -- A 91-year-old township woman who was beaten and bound during a home invasion at her Manor Drive home in late March died at the end of April.
Ewing police responding to an open door at Doris Geisel's Manor Drive home on the morning of March 29 found her tied up in her basement. She was beaten and dragged there by two home invaders who ransacked her house.
Geisel was hospitalized with serious injuries following the attack, and later moved to a care center. She died there April 20, officials said.
An autopsy was performed and found her death from natural causes, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office said. An office spokeswoman said the office is satisfied Geisel's death was not related to the injuries she suffered in the crime.
A 21-year-old Trenton man was arrested and charged a few days after the attack with being one of the robbers. Police are still searching for the second intruder.
Geisel was a longtime resident of Ewing's West Trenton neighborhood and was a native of Baltimore, where she was born, her obituary said.
Known as GiGi, she also loved to bake and cook, taking food to family and friends, and was a Philadelphia sports fan. "Everyone who ever met GiGi was her friend," it said.
