Fire Department mechanic Harris Kohen and Acting Battalion Chief Cliff Willever were picking up a repaired fire engine when they spotted smoke.
TRENTON -- A two-man Trenton Fire Department crew responded to a mulch fire in the borough of Tuckerton Wednesday shortly after picking up a repaired fire engine.
Fire department mechanic Harris Kohen and Acting Battalion Chief Cliff Willever were on East Main Street in the lower Ocean County town Wednesday afternoon when Kohen spotted smoke across the street.
The Tuckerton Fire Department said in a Facebook post that Willever grabbed an extinguisher and walked across the street while Kohen started the pumper and drove it over.
A Tuckerton police officer also saw the smoke and helped knock down the fire with an extinguisher, the post said.
Mulch, vegetation and lattice trim was burning in the front of the building, and Willever stretched a hose to wet down the area.
We would like to thank Harris Kohen and Acting Battalion Chief Cliff Willever for their quick thinking and action," the Tuckerton Fire Department said in the post.
