The family has strong ties to Rider University
FALLS TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A husband and wife were killed early Sunday in a crash on Route 1 that police say was caused by a wrong-way driver from Trenton, according to a report in the Bucks County Courier Times.
David Sochalski, 30, and Carmen Cedeno, 42, of Bensalem, Pa., were pronounced dead at the hospital. Sochalski was a mechanic in Rider University's facilities management department, according to an email sent out to the school's community.
The couple leave behind a son, Garrison, who turns 2 next month.
Cedeno's brother, Luis Mendez, who was in the rear seat, remains in critical condition. He is employed by Cushman and Wakefield, but also works at Rider's Westminster Choir College campus in Princeton.
Sochalski's mother, Michele, is the business coordinator in Rider's Office of Information Technology.
"This is a very difficult day for the Rider community, and we extend our sincerest condolences to Michele and the entire Sochalski family," the email read.
Sochalski was traveling southbound on Route 1 in Falls Township, Pa., when his car was hit head-on by 35-year-old Alexander Skroumbelos, of Trenton, who was driving north in the southbound lanes, the Courier-Times reported. Skroumbelos is in critical condition.
The impact caused one of the cars to flip over a concrete barrier, where it was struck by a third vehicle, the newspaper said. The driver and passenger suffered minor injuries.
Police believe alcohol or drugs were a factor, according to LevittownNow.com.
