LAWRENCE -- A 77-year-old woman was reportedly carjacked at the Lawrence Shopping Center in Lawrence Monday afternoon.
The crime was first reported by West Windsor police, who sent an alert to be on the lookout for a silver 2013 Kia Rio.
The vehicle's New Jersey license plate is N62-EAX, the alert said.
The alert, through Nixle, said Lawrence police were dispatched to the shopping center at about 3:30 p.m. for a motor-vehicle theft and determined the victim was carjacked.
The shopping center is on Brunswick Pike (Business Rt. 1).
The alert described the carjacker as a heavyset African American male about 6-feet tall.
After "ripping" the woman from the vehicle, the carjacker drove from the scene in an unknown direction, the alert said.
Lawrence police were not immediately available for comment Monday evening.
