The killing follows a week of nonfatal shootings that wounded eight people.

TRENTON -- A male was shot dead in Trenton's West Ward Friday night following a week of shootings that wounded a total of eight people.

Trenton police spokesman Lt. Stephen Varn said police officers were alerted to a shooting on the first block of North Hermitage Avenue at about 9:10 p.m.

Upon arrival they found a man suffering gunshot wounds on nearby Boudinot Street, Varn said.

The man was rushed to Capital Health Medical Center in Trenton, where he succumbed about an hour later, Varn said.

The man's identity was not immediately available.

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating.

On Wednesday evening, the shooting of a man in the 100 block of Walnut Avenue was the fourth person wounded in three shootings that day.

As of Wednesday evening, eight people had been wounded in seven shootings in a week in different areas of the city.
