Princeton police were out restoring the town Sunday morning after high winds left damages on utilities and roads closed.

PRINCETON -- Toppled trees and utility lines kept officials busy in Princeton Sunday in the aftermath of overnight storms that swept through the state.

Quaker and Mercer Roads were closed in the morning due to a fallen power line and tree branches.

Fallen tree branches also blocked traffic on part of Quaker Road and Stockton Street just south of Nassau Street.

Quarry Street, Linden Lane, Hamilton Avenue, Snowden Lane, Stockton Street and Route 206 were all closed one some point overnight or early Sunday, according to alerts from the police department.

A Princeton police officer even used a long tree branch to prop up a fallen utility line on Mercer Road at one point.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for Mercer County Sunday afternoon. The website reported that winds were going to be between 25 and 30 miles per hour with gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.

As of 11 a.m., East Windsor had a gust of 71 mph, according to preliminary wind measurements reported by the National Weather Service and the New Jersey Weather & Climate Network at Rutgers University.
